Because each individual splashback is custom-made, we will firstly visit your premises to take measurements and advise you on what works best for your situation. Feel free to ask any questions about colour and image options.

The great thing about glass splashbacks is that not only do they look amazing – they are easier to keep clean than traditional tiles and grout – making them more hygienic. Traditional glass cleaners or cloths with soapy water are all you need to clean them. (Do not use steel wool or other abrasives).

Our glass splashbacks are manufactured in accordance with AS/NZS 2208 and AS/NZS 4667 standards. This means that the holes for power outlets etc are cut out prior to the toughening process. Our splashbacks are 6mm in width providing the durability and strength to outlast the most tenacious environments. Because the images are painted onto the rear surface, the image is designed to last and maintain its clarity and vibrance, even in the most gruelling kitchens.

Can I use my own images?

It's a great way to own your space when you have a hand in creating the finished product.

I often get asked "Can I use my own image?" and the answer depends on how well the image enlarges for printing.

This usually means that phone pictures (which are usually jpeg images) may not have sufficient resolution to be printed as a splashback, although some phone-cameras now offer the ability to shoot in "RAW" which gives a little bit more flexibility to enlarge the image.

The preference is to shoot in the highest resolution possible using either DSLR, mirrorless, or film. (In the case of film, the image would need to be digitally scanned prior to submitting for production. 20 megapixels is the minimum to get a good splashback image.

If you have a favourite location and don't own a camera, I can help by going along with you to shoot the composition you hope to have as a splashback. You in effect get to direct the shot and it then becomes something personal to you. There is an extra charge for this service just ask and I can give you a quote to do this.

In this splashback, Sean, our client, wanted a shot of Bar Beach. We chose a sunny day with plenty of people and Sean and his family sat amongst the crowd and became part of the splashback image. Now, when you visit, you can look at the splashback and try and find the family on the beach. It's a great conversation piece that still adds to the decor of the home without making the picture too personal. (Great for resale value).

Covid safe and easier to clean than tiles.

Marble effects

Marble looks amazing, however, it is porous and can permanently stain with food such as beetroot or even lemon citrus cleaning sprays.

In answer to repeated requests, I created a marble pattern from a picture of Tomaree and manipulated it in photoshop to create Tomaree marble.

These are seamless patterns and can be produced as one seamless piece up to 3.2m x 2m.

Colour variations are possible upon request.

The image on your glass splashback is printed onto the reverse side of the splashback. The splashback is sealed into place using a food-grade silicone sealant and the image is always protected against the harsh chemicals of any cleaner you choose to use. We'll provide you with a trade-strength cleaner that we recommend but because the image is protected by glass, you cannot damage it through cleaning. Because there is no grout to contend with the splashback is a breeze to clean and is suitable for areas where infection control is a must - including hospitals and restaurants.

Industry codes and glass splashbacks

Splashbacks are becoming very popular in homes today as more and more homeowners discover how hygienic they are, however, there are some very real safety guidelines and regulations that need to be followed when it comes to the distance between splashbacks and gas cooktops.

It is very important to understand that glass splashbacks are toughened glass built to a code of heat resistance, they are not a “heat shield” as some people may assume and therefore it is absolutely paramount that the installation of any glass splashback behind the kitchen cooktop is compliant with the Australia/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1288, and should be built from toughened glass.

Glass splashbacks installed behind open-flame gas cooktops are carefully regulated in order to prevent them from being a source of sufficient heat to cause a fire. These regulations are specifically contained within the requirements for the installation of gas appliances.

Whether you are building a brand new home or you are updating an existing kitchen, make sure you are proactive with the installation of your new gas cooktop, by talking to the cabinet maker and builder or renovator to specify the exact dimensions of the cooktop and ensure that it is very clear that the distance between the splashback and the back burners of the gas cooktop must comply with the Australian/New Zealand Standard regulations.

Does Your Splashback Comply?

The Building Codes specify that a clearance between the nearest gas burner to any combustible substrate (timber framing or any other combustible material) needs to be at least 200mm.

Under the previous Standard if a gas burner was less than 200mm from a combustible surface the surface had to be protected. This could be achieved by several methods including using 5mm minimum thick ceramic tiles over any substrate or a glass or metal splashback with a ‘fireboard’ substrate that has been tested to satisfy the requirements of that standard.

The new Standard now only requires splashbacks with either standard cement sheet or gypsum plasterboard substrates to protect combustible surfaces, with some conditions.
This removes the need to use a specific fireboard material.

The requirements for splashbacks less than 200mm from the edge of any gas burner can now be satisfied by the following:
• Ceramic tiles minimum 5mm thick over either 10mm minimum thick gypsum-based plasterboard or 6mm minimum thick fibre cement sheet
• Toughened safety glass (glass splashbacks) minimum 5mm thick over either 10mm minimum thick gypsum-based plasterboard or 6mm minimum thick fibre cement sheet
• Sheet metal minimum 0.4mm thick over either 12mm minimum thick cement sheet or a combination of 6mm minimum thick fibre cement sheet and 10mm minimum thick gypsum-based plasterboard. This protection must extend the full width or depth of the cooktop or cooking surface, which does not include control knobs, to a minimum height of 150mm above the periphery of the nearest burner.
Safety glass for glass splashbacks should comply with the relevant Australian Standard AS/NZS 2208 ‘safety glazing materials in buildings’ and the glass marked ‘safety glass’ to ensure that it’s fit for purpose

IMPORTANT NOTE: The appliance manufacturer's installation specifications override these minimum requirements if the manufacturer requires greater clearance or greater protection of combustible surfaces.

DISCLAIMER- The above is intended to provide general information in summary form only. The contents do not constitute specific advice and should not be relied upon as such. Formal specific advice should be sought with respect to particular matters before taking any action.

With regard to electric cooktops, if you have a splashback adjacent to an electric cooktop, there is no regulated minimum clearance; however, your builder will still need to follow the basic minimum clearance guidelines set out in AG/601.
